Club Development – What is your clubs legal position?

The Sport & Recreational Alliance website often provides much valuable advice and information for clubs. Such was the case recently when they reviewed the options facing clubs with regard to their legal standing. Do you know what the legal status of your club is? If not the article on the subject in the Members Only page, may help you.

The article also refers to the Community Amateur Sports Club status; rules on this are due to change shortly, so a summary of the revised rules will be added also in due course.

Annual General Meeting 2014

The Annual General Meeting of the Sports Council was held at Waterloo Rugby Club yesterday 28th May. All existing officers were reappointed, so Paul Wilkinson remains Chairman, with Andy Kenyon and Peter Bull, as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Neil McQuaid stays on as Vice-Chairman.

One of the main events of the evening was the relaunch of this website, with a brief summary of our hopes and aspirations for the development of the site. One of the innovations is the inclusion of the Members Only page. During the next couple of weeks, those clubs that have paid their subscription will be allocated a club identification code and a password to give them access. However to provide access I do need to include an email address, so if you haven’t had an email confirming your userid and password, then please contact me on neil@edwardn.plus.com, and I will set it up for you.

The first items to go on the Members Only page will be the minutes of our March Meeting, the minutes of the AGM and the Chairman’s report. I will also be adding news items as and when they crop up, and will trail them in the News/Events page.

As regards the News/Events page I will repeat my plea from last night. If you want a club event to be publicised, then please let me know, and pictures would be most welcome.

Bursary Fund gets a boost

The Sports Council bursary scheme has provided small bursaries for local sports persons, to assist with training costs and the coasts of attaining coaching qualifications.

The fund recently received a much welcome boost with a grant in excess of £1,000 from the Merseyside Sports Partnership. The grant is Sefton’s share of the profits from the annual Merseyside Sports Acheivers Dinner, held at the Liverpool Adelphi Hotel last November.

Discretionary Rate Relief – Review of eligibility

The current round of discretionary rate relief expires next year. In preparation for new applications we are reviewing the performance of those clubs currently enjoying the benefits of the relief, ensuring that the eligibility criteria are still being met.

Several clubs recently attended a review meeting at Southport and Birkdale Sports Club, and a further meeting is planned for Thursday 29th May, to be held at Formby Pool. If your club is currently receiving the relief, attendance is essential if your application for renewal in 2015 is to be successful.

A further meeting is planned for the south of the Borough in June, details of which will be published shortly.

Website Training Started

Good afternoon all.

You will be pleased to know that Website Training had begun for the Officers of Sefton Sports Council.

This should mean that over the coming months, communication of Stories, New Items and Important Information will be easily done through this website as well as the usual email database. Hopefully this will be a massive benefit to the Member Clubs and we hope we can encourage you to visit the site regularly in order to access up to date information.

A members side of the site is being worked on at the moment and when the log in details and database is finalised, if you have paid your Affiliation to the Sports Council you will be able to access even more topical, historical and useful news, information and documents.

Fingers crossed this will be an important and successful project and chapter in Sefton Sports Council long history.

All the best and hopefully see and speak to you all soon.

Andy Kenyon
